Minister Avcı meets with the members of press in Paris

Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı met with the members of the Turkish Press following his address at the 38th General Congress of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

“Due to its geographic location as well as its historical and cultural richness, Turkey is a country that already deserves to be represented at the Executive Board of UNESCO,” Minister Avcı declared. 

Minister Avcı noted that the congress has two important points for Turkey adding that the first is the role of education in the prevention of violence and the second is Turkey’s candidacy for the Executive Board of UNESCO. 

Stressing that Turkey was elected to the presidency of the World Heritage Committee last year with a vmajority of votes which was rarely seen the history of UNESCO, Minister Avcı said, “This gave us the courage to nominate Turkey to become a member of executive board which is the highest executive body of UNESCO.”

Minister Avcı stated that they have conducted negotiations and bilateral talks within this framework in an effort to pave Turkey’s way for the executive board for 2017 adding that, “To be frank, we have been receiving positive response from various different countries. We hope that we will see Turkey as a member to UNESCO Executive Board in 2017.” 

 

Turkey is one of the three countries that implements World’s most important humanitarian aid programs  

Minister Avcı stressed, “Turkey has displayed an inventory that contributes to the ideals of UNESCO with its actions and implementations.”

Stating that Turkey has become one of the three countries that implements World’s most important humanitarian aid programs with its international efforts in the last decade, Minister Avcı said, “Due to its geographic location as well as its historical and cultural richness, Turkey is a country that already deserves to be represented at the Executive Board of UNESCO. If Allah permits, we will be in the position of executing our mission in a more effective way in 2017.”

Minister Avcı met UNESCO General Director Irina Bokova, Minister of High Education of Afghanistan Khater Afghan and Iraqi Minister of Education Muhammed İkbal as a part of his contacts in Paris. 

Minister Avcı participated in the high level conference with luncheon organized by the US government in order to promote the role of education in the prevention of discrimination leading violence.
